Dandelion Dreams

Lying in a field of yellow dandelions,
Beneath an ever-changing sky,
I dream.
And in dreaming,
I am.

Alone

Water rippled across my feet on the cold, dark beach...
As I walked on the moonlit sand, lonely and afraid.
Afraid I would always be heartbroken and alone.
Not knowing how in this world he could ever atone
For the heart wrenching pain of his final escapade.

I walked on - in the sand - my mind full of memories past
Of the romance, the laughter and love now all gone.
Of smiles and the touch of his hand forever gone cold.
Oh, but in my heart he will live until I am withered and old
He is gone - but for me, here comes hope...the hope of a new dawn.

Rusted Shopping Cart

He piloted a chopper through gunfire and bombs
To pick up his comrades who had fallen and bled.
Now he pilots a rusted shopping cart
And picks up scraps...alone and unwanted.

He fought for his country and gave ever so much
Did his country fight for him when he was unwell?
Or did the government turn its back on him
To forage an existence in his own living hell.

Hospitals too full....family all gone
He was put on the streets to make his own way.
The man who had so much courage to give, now
Pushes a shopping cart, picking up scraps each day.

The Good Night

And to the good night I say
Do not entice me with your charms
I cannot go...I want to stay
Put down your outstretched arms.

The time will come when I will have no say
but to go with you when you call.
Grant me just a little more time, I pray.
Don't make me beg...don't make me crawl.

I have a lot of laughing to do
And places and things to see.
So, when I am ready, I'll call you
and then you can come for me.

Eyes of Blue

What hurts worse than betrayal
What pain is worse than that unearned?
Lives there anyone anywhere
Whose heart has not been so burned?

My mistake was in working hard
And thinking life was fair
But when the truth did emerge,
I learned no one really cared.

Sometimes the pain was so intense
That I could scarcely breathe
And with hot tears falling
Forgot all that I believed.

The black clouds swirled about
Beckoning me to just give in
It's so hard to fight with aching heart
So hard not to let the darkness win.

But then from faraway I heard a plea
A voice saying, "I am your friend
Just hold on tight and come with me
And together we'll make the blackness end."

And I felt so sure that I'd be safe
As I reached for my true friend's hand
And I looked into eyes of blue that truly cared
And then thanked God for such a friend.
